| LAKE TITICACA |
 |
More than a name evocating our childhood dreams, it is a symbol of South America. Cradle of the most ancient Amerindian civilizations, Lake Titicaca has always exerted a strong fascination over travelers and conquerants. It is located in a magnificent landscape between Peru and the Cordillera Real, a barrier of uninterrupted snowed in summits over 6000 meters high.
At the whims of the winds, a fisherman takes us to the Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun), cradle of the Aymara and Inca mythology. According to the legend, God Viracocha created there his children, Manko Capac, the first Inca and his sister Mama Ollko, who later on founded the Empire’s capital Cusco. Before them, the little known Tiwanaku civilization had elected to erect its capital on the shores of this lake resembling an ocean.

| THE YUNGAS |
 |
Born from the Cordillera Real highest summits, the valleys of the Yungas abruptly drop into the Amazon Basin. The roads permitting access to this terrestrial paradise are vertiginous. As we leave the Altiplano behind, the deserted scenery leaves room to a more luxuriant one, to new perfumes and to waterfalls that seem to fall from the sky. Further on, the vegetation becomes yet denser, until it becomes a real jungle.
On these steep slopes are cultivates various fruits and vegetable alimenting the markets of the Altiplano: melons, mangoes, papayas, bananas and coffee grow there in the middle of des parrots and monkeys. And lets not forget the coca of course, which culture is here traditional.
The Yungas offer numerous possibilities: 4WD discovery raids, hikes, unique VTT expeditions, river descents, or simply a rest in a tropical climate…

LA PAZ – COROICO - LA PAZ / MAD MOUNTAIN BIKE DESCENT (Group service) |
 |
Departure from the hotel at 7:30 a.m. to meet with our mountain bike team.
We start our insane mountain bike descent from La Cumbre (el. 4750 m.a.s.l.). As we bike down the winding road, the scenery is more and more lush, the air more humid, the wind yet warmer... more than 3500 meters of elevation loss to reach Yolosa (el. 1100 m.a.s.l.) in just a few hours!
To end the day, a steep, 7-kilometer uphill (650 m of elevation gain) takes us to the village of Coroico, paradise of the Yungas (option to do this last part in the support vehicle). Return to La Paz in the evening.
Cold lunch included. Dinner open. Hotel ***.
Note: the descent is done as a group. No support team from Terra Andina.

LA PAZ – YUNGAS – EL CASTILLO – LA PAZ |
 |
Departure at 9 a.m. from our hotel in a private 4WD, direction la Cordillera Real. After passing the Cumbre a pass at 4750 m of altitude, the Andes, abruptly drop below our feet. A few hundred kilometers lower as the crow flies, is the Amazonian Basin! Welcome to this incredible intermediate region called the Yungas, named after an ancient pre-Incan tribe that used to live on its steep slopes.
We enter in the Unduavi Valley, by a winding and exposed dirt road to yet warmer climate...
All of a sudden, perched on a promontory, appears the shadow of a medieval castle. This building, surely one of the most peculiar in Bolivia, was erected by Paraguayans prisoners, during the Chaco war (1932), to satisfy the whim of the Bolivian president. It is today, a beautiful and comfortable hotel. Afternoon open. Option to bathe in the river or in the swimming pool or to go for a stroll. Return to La Paz at the end of the day.
Lunch at the Castle. Dinner open. Hotel ***.

| THE CORDILLERA |
 |
The local inhabitants of the Altiplano were never attracted by the mountains. The Andean mythology, transferred from generation to generation and still very present in the popular believes, has made of the mountains of the cordillera Real, Apolobamba or Quimsa Cruz sacred entities that we have to respect as well as powerful neighbors deserving offerings. While one divinity builds, the other destroys with the same ardor. "Wira" picked the stones to erect the mountains, "Kjuno" the avalanches and the glaciers, to destroy them. During the big wars, the Gods realized the beauty of the Andes and transformed them in splendid peaks of rock and ice, domineering the world of men. Why do these half crazy "gringos" visit all the valleys of these mountains and sometimes even their summits? Surely, they are looking for gold but they never tell anyone about it... How many men and women dream to trek on glaciers or to scale a “6000 meter” peak? Here, the inaccessible summits are near by, a few hours away by 4WD from the capital. This is why La Paz is the ideal base camp for altitude treks and mystical ascents.

LA PAZ / FLIGHT OVER THE ROYAL CORDILLERA |
 |
La Paz and its surroundings offer a large variety of climates and scenery. To contemplate this panorama from the sky will, surely, be one of your most incredible travelling experiences
1-hour suggested trip:
In the morning, a private vehicle picks you up at the hotel to take you to the airport, where the pilot and the twin engine at your disposal await you.
We start by flying over the city of La Paz and its valley, tucked between the cordillera and the Altiplano, before plunging between the summits of llimani and Huayna Potosi. All of a sudden, it is as if the mountains were tumbling under our wings: we are above the region of the Yungas, where the Andes abruptly disappear in the Amazon Basin. We head northwest and follow the Cordillera Real. As summits pass us by on the left, the immensity of the green Amazon rushes on our right. Above the village of Sorata, we circle Illampu and start our return to La Paz, flying over the Altiplano and Lake Titicaca.
Lunch and dinner open. Hotel ***.
Note: the schedule and itinerary will be dependent on the weather condition of the day
